Introducing BoxBack

A household return rarely stays with one person from start to finish. Someone starts the return in Amazon, Target, or Walmart. Someone else — a partner, a roommate, a parent — ends up carrying the box out the door days later, with no idea which QR code belongs to which item, whether it’s a drop-off or a pickup, or whether there’s any proof if the refund never shows up.
That handoff is the whole problem BoxBack solves, and today it’s available on iPhone.
What BoxBack does
BoxBack pairs every return code with a photo of the actual item, so the right thing leaves the house every time:
- Save the code, snap the item. Import a return screenshot and BoxBack looks for the QR code, barcode, store, and deadline automatically. Snap a photo of the item, and the two stay matched from that point on.
- Track drop-off or pickup, separately. A store or locker drop-off gets a due date and reminders three days out, one day out, and the morning it’s due. A carrier pickup gets its own date and reminders the night before and the morning of.
- Show a clean code at the counter. Open any return and tap Show Code for a full-screen, high-contrast view of the code — no digging through Photos, no squinting at a shrunk screenshot.
- Keep proof it happened. With BoxBack Plus, save the drop-off or pickup receipt right after it’s handed over, so there’s a record if a refund is ever disputed weeks later.
BoxBack is free to start. BoxBack Plus is a one-time upgrade that adds receipt proof, iCloud sync across your devices, household sharing for up to five people, and multi-return receipts — so the whole household sees the same list, not just whoever started each return.
Why we built it
We kept losing track of returns the same way most households do: a return started on one phone, an item photo taken on someone else’s, a QR code buried three weeks deep in Camera Roll by the time anyone remembered to look for it. Retailers have gotten good at making the return itself easy. Nobody has solved the part where a family actually coordinates it. That’s what BoxBack is for.
